Steel is the core of what we do.

Stainless steel is one of our regularly stocked materials. We cut it across multiple grades and finishes for customers in food processing, medical, architectural, chemical, and general engineering applications.

Fibre laser technology is well-suited to cutting stainless steel, because it produces clean, precise edges with minimal burr and a good surface finish on standard grades. The key is process control, and that's what our programming and production team is set up to deliver consistently.

Stainless Steel: What We Cut

We cut a range of stainless grades and finishes. Common requests include 304, 316, and duplex grades, along with various surface finishes from mill finish to brushed and mirror-polished sheet.

Our technical sales team can advise on grade suitability if you're not sure which specification is right for your application.

Specification Details
Grades 304, 316, 316L, duplex and others on request
Finishes Mill finish, 2B, No.4 brushed, mirror. Please confirm on enquiry
Thickness range 0.5mm up to 20mm (grade and finish dependent)
Max sheet size Up to 4,000 x 2,000mm depending on grade

If you have a specific grade or finish requirement not listed, call us. We can usually source to order.

Cutting Stainless Steel: What You Need to Know

Stainless steel behaves differently to mild steel under the laser, and the quality of the result depends on process choice and settings. A few things worth knowing:

  • Nitrogen assist gas is used for high-quality stainless cutting: It produces a cleaner, oxide-free edge and is standard practice for most stainless applications
  • Mirror and brushed finishes need careful handling to protect the surface: We take appropriate precautions as standard
  • Thin stainless (under 1mm) can distort with heat: Our programming team considers this in the cutting strategy
  • Post-cut finishing, such as passivation or polishing, is not something we offer in-house, but we can advise on what’s typically required for different applications

If you have specific quality or finish requirements for your stainless parts, tell us at the enquiry stage. It’s easier to get it right the first time than to correct it after cutting.

Common Stainless Steel Applications

Stainless steel laser cutting is used wherever corrosion resistance, hygiene, or appearance matters. Typical applications we cut:

  • Food and drink processing equipment components
  • Medical and pharmaceutical equipment housings and frames
  • Chemical processing equipment and pipework flanges
  • Architectural and decorative features
  • Marine and offshore environment components
  • Catering and hospitality equipment
  • General engineering applications where corrosion resistance is required

Bending and Tapping Stainless

We can bend and tap stainless steel parts in the same facility. Press brake bending is available for most common grades and thicknesses. Tapping is available for through-holes needing a thread before final assembly.

Note: stainless steel work-hardens when bent, so press brake setup needs to account for this. Our team is experienced with stainless bending and will flag any concerns at the quoting stage.
