Stainless steel behaves differently to mild steel under the laser, and the quality of the result depends on process choice and settings. A few things worth knowing:
- Nitrogen assist gas is used for high-quality stainless cutting: It produces a cleaner, oxide-free edge and is standard practice for most stainless applications
- Mirror and brushed finishes need careful handling to protect the surface: We take appropriate precautions as standard
- Thin stainless (under 1mm) can distort with heat: Our programming team considers this in the cutting strategy
- Post-cut finishing, such as passivation or polishing, is not something we offer in-house, but we can advise on what’s typically required for different applications
