A full range of metals, cut properly

If you’re still deciding on material for your project, or just want a clear view of what’s possible, you’re in the right place.

SJS Laser cuts the full range of metals used in UK manufacturing and fabrication. Mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass and specialist alloys. From 0.5mm up to 30mm in thickness. On beds up to 4,000 x 2,000mm.

If the metal you need to be cut is in that range, we can help.

Metals We Cut

We process all common structural and engineering metal grades, including:

Material Max Thickness | Availability
Mild Steel (S275, S355, CR4, Galvanised) 25mm | Held in stock
Stainless Steel (304, 316 and others) 20mm | Held in stock
Aluminium (1050, 5251, 5083, 6082-T6, Tread) 30mm | Next-day supply
Copper (C101, C103, C106) 15mm | Next-day supply
Specialist alloys and other metals Call to discuss | Sourced to order

Mild and stainless steels are held in stock for fast turnaround. Aluminium and copper are available on next-day supply. Brass, titanium and other specialist materials are sourced to order. Please call to confirm lead times.

We also offer a free-issue service: send us your own material, and we'll charge for the cutting and any additional processing only.

Why Laser Cutting?

For most metal cutting applications, laser cutting offers the best combination of precision, speed and flexibility, especially compared to traditional methods like punching, plasma cutting or waterjet:

  • No hard tooling required, any profile can be cut without a specific tool
  • Complex geometry and tight tolerances as standard
  • Clean edges with good surface finish on most materials
  • Efficient sheet nesting reduces material waste
  • Fast setup and switching between different jobs
  • Equally suited to prototypes, small batches and high-volume production

There are situations where laser cutting isn’t the optimal choice, for example, very thick plate where plasma is more cost-effective, or specific applications where other methods are better suited. If that’s the case with your job, we’ll tell you.

Our Cutting Capability

We run fibre laser cutting machines. They are the current technology standard for cutting metals at precision and production speed. Our cutting beds go up to 4,000 x 2,000mm, our thickness range extends to 30mm, and our 24-hour CNC programming and production operation means jobs are processed continuously.

We have six technical sales staff who understand what they’re quoting and can advise on material choice, process options and lead times.

Beyond Cutting

If your metal parts need to be formed or finished after cutting, we can handle that in the same facility.

Bending via press brake for flat parts that need to become three-dimensional.

Tapping for threaded holes that need to be added before assembly.

Cut, bent and tapped: one supplier, one delivery.

Common Questions

If you have any questions around our laser cutting services please feel free to get in touch
  • Which metals can you laser cut?

We cut mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass, and specialist alloys. If you’re unsure which metal suits your application, our team can advise to ensure precision cutting and minimal post-processing.

  • Can you bend or tap laser-cut metal parts?

Yes. We can bend flat laser cut parts into three-dimensional components and add threaded holes via tapping. This allows the metal parts to arrive ready to assemble, reducing handling and supplier coordination.

  • How quickly can you start cutting metal parts?

Lead times depend on the material and thickness. Mild and stainless steels are held in stock for rapid processing, while aluminium and copper are typically available next-day. Specialist alloys or free-issue materials can often be sourced or processed quickly once specifications are provided.

  • Do you offer UK-wide metal laser cutting services?

Absolutely. We deliver metal parts across the UK, including free-issue service if you supply your own material. Our team ensures fast turnaround and precise results.

  • Why choose laser cutting for metal parts?

Laser cutting for metal parts provides clean edges, tight tolerances, complex profiles, and minimal material waste. It’s suitable for prototypes, single batches, or high-volume production, offering speed and consistency compared to traditional methods.
