Aluminium, handled properly

Aluminium is one of our most frequently requested non-ferrous materials. We cut a comprehensive range of grades and thicknesses, available on next-day supply in most cases.

Fibre laser is the right technology for cutting aluminium at production quality. It's faster and cleaner than CO2 laser on aluminium and produces a better edge finish on reflective materials. The key is appropriate laser settings and process control, both of which our programming team manages as standard.

Aluminium Grades We Cut

We process all common structural and engineering aluminium grades, including:

Grade Typical Uses & Notes
1050 Pure aluminium, excellent formability, chemical plant and food processing
5251 Good corrosion resistance, marine and transport applications
5083 High strength, marine, offshore and structural applications
6082-T6 High strength structural grade — aerospace, automotive, engineering
J57-S Aluminium tread plate for flooring and safety applications
Tread Plate Anti-slip flooring, vehicle bodywork, access covers
Max sheet size 3,000 x 1,500mm
Max thickness 30mm (grade dependent)

If you need a grade not listed here, let us know. We can often source to order on a short lead time.

Cutting Aluminium: What to Know

Aluminium has some characteristics that are worth being aware of when specifying laser-cut parts:

  • High reflectivity can cause issues with CO2 lasers, but fibre laser handles this well and is our standard process for aluminium
  • Aluminium conducts heat quickly, which can affect edge quality on very thin material; our programming team adjusts settings accordingly
  • 6082-T6 and other heat-treated alloys can be affected by the laser’s heat input; tolerances and edge quality remain good, but any implications for structural applications should be considered
  • Tread plate has a surface pattern that can affect cut path programming, but we always account for this at the quoting stage

We’re happy to discuss any specific requirements or concerns before you place an order. Call the technical sales team, and we can talk through the job.

Common Aluminium Laser Cutting Applications

Aluminium laser cutting is used across a wide range of sectors where weight, corrosion resistance or appearance matters:

  • Aerospace and aviation components
  • Automotive and motorsport lightweight components
  • Marine and offshore structural parts
  • Industrial enclosures and electrical panel housings
  • Transport and vehicle bodywork
  • Access flooring and safety decking (tread plate)
  • Architectural and decorative aluminium panels and screens
  • Agricultural machinery lightweight components

Bending Aluminium

We can bend aluminium after cutting using our press brake technology. Different aluminium grades have different bending characteristics; for example, 1050 bends easily, while 6082-T6 requires more care and specific tooling.

Tell us if your parts need bending at the enquiry stage, and we'll factor in the appropriate process and any relevant considerations.

Common Questions

If you have any questions around our laser cutting services please feel free to get in touch
  • Which aluminium grades can you laser cut?

We cut 1050, 5251, 5083, 6082-T6, J57-S, and tread plate aluminium. Our team can advise which aluminium grade suits your application, whether for structural, marine, aerospace, or decorative use.

  • What is the maximum thickness for aluminium laser cutting?

Aluminium can be laser cut up to 30mm, depending on grade. Thickness and part complexity affect edge quality, so we review your specifications to confirm what’s achievable.

  • Why use fibre laser for aluminium cutting?

Fibre lasers handle reflective aluminium more effectively than CO2 machines, producing precise edges and a clean surface finish. This means repeatable, high-quality aluminum laser cutting results for both prototypes and production runs.

  • Can you bend aluminium parts after cutting?

Yes. Press brake bending is available for aluminium, with tooling and process tailored to the specific grade. Softer alloys like 1050 bend easily, while 6082-T6 requires careful handling to avoid marks or cracking.

  • Do you provide UK delivery on aluminium laser cutting services?

Yes. Aluminium is usually available on next-day supply, and we offer nationwide delivery. Parts can also be bent or tapped before dispatch, ready to assemble on arrival.
