Steel is the core of what we do.

Mild steel accounts for the largest share of our laser cutting work. It's versatile, cost-effective, widely available and well-suited to laser cutting across a broad range of thicknesses and applications.

We hold mild steel in multiple grades in stock. That means no waiting for material supply on standard jobs, just send us your drawings, and we'll get started.

Mild Steel Grades We Cut

We process all common structural and engineering mild steel grades, including:

Specification Details
S275 Max sheet: 4,000 x 2,000mm | Max thickness: 25mm
S355 Max sheet: 4,000 x 2,000mm | Max thickness: 25mm
CR4 (cold-rolled) Max sheet: 4,000 x 1,500mm | Max thickness: 3mm
Galvanised Steel Max sheet: 4,000 x 1,500mm | Max thickness: 3mm

S275 and S355 are our most frequently cut structural grades, both available up to 25mm. CR4 and galvanised are commonly used for thinner gauge sheet metal work. All are held in stock for fast turnaround.

If you need a grade or spec not listed here, get in touch. We can often source to order on short lead times.

Why Laser Cut Mild Steel?

Mild steel is one of the most laser-friendly materials there is. It cuts cleanly, holds tolerances well, and the process is fast across a wide thickness range.

  • Clean cut edges with good surface finish on thin and medium gauge
  • Tolerances typically held to ±0.1mm on standard applications
  • Complex profiles with tight features are achievable without tooling cost
  • Efficient sheet nesting reduces scrap and cost per part
  • Minimal setup between jobs
  • Suitable for both single prototypes and high-volume production

For thicknesses above approximately 20mm, the cut quality changes. We’ll advise if a different process might be more suitable for your application, but for the vast majority of mild steel jobs, laser cutting is the right answer.

Common Mild Steel Laser Cutting Applications

Mild steel laser cutting is used across a huge range of sectors. Parts we regularly cut include:

  • Brackets, gussets and structural connection components
  • Machine frames, panels and enclosures
  • Agricultural machinery and implement components
  • Trailer and vehicle body components
  • Construction and infrastructure steelwork
  • Blanks for press forming and further fabrication
  • General fabricated assemblies in structural and non-structural applications

What Happens After Cutting

Mild steel parts often need further processing before they reach final use, and in many cases, we can handle that before the parts leave us.

  • Bending: Press brake forming to your specified angles and profiles
  • Tapping: Threaded holes added accurately before dispatch
  • Deburring: Where required for parts that need a clean edge

Cut, bent and tapped mild steel parts, delivered ready to assemble. One supplier, one delivery.

Common Questions

If you have any questions around our laser cutting services please feel free to get in touch
  • Which mild steel grades do you cut?

We laser cut S275, S355, CR4 cold-rolled, and galvanised mild steel, all held in stock for rapid processing. If you’re unsure which grade fits your project, we can provide guidance to achieve the most precise and cost-effective results.

  • What is the maximum sheet size for mild steel laser cutting?

Our fibre laser machines handle sheets up to 4,000 x 2,000mm for most grades. We can advise on sheet sizes for non-standard applications to optimise cutting efficiency and minimise waste.

  • How precise is laser cutting mild steel?

We maintain tight tolerances, typically within ±0.1mm, producing clean edges and accurate profiles. This precision is ideal for both prototype projects and high-volume production runs.

  • Can you bend or tap laser-cut mild steel parts?

Yes. We offer press brake bending and tapped holes alongside laser cutting. Simply provide the sheet thickness, bend angles, or thread requirements at the enquiry stage, and we’ll advise on what’s achievable.

  • Do you provide UK mild steel laser cutting services?

Yes, we deliver laser-cut mild steel parts across the UK. With stocked materials and experienced staff, we can start quickly and ensure parts arrive ready for assembly.
