Subcontract Laser Cutting

A dedicated cutting partner, not another overhead. Precision subcontract laser cutting from our 24-hour Rotherham facility.

Serving the UK 24 hours a day.

If you're subcontracting laser cutting, you already know what you need. You need a supplier who picks up the phone, turns work around without drama, and sends parts that don't need checking twice.

SJS Laser is a specialist subcontract laser cutting operation based in Rotherham. That's all we do: cut, bend and tap metal parts for other businesses.

We've been doing it since 2012, we run 24 hours a day, and we have six technical sales staff who understand engineering drawings. And since becoming an Employee Ownership Trust in 2025, every person in this business has a stake in getting your parts right.

What Subcontracting to SJS Looks Like

We work as an extension of your operation. Most of our customers are manufacturers, fabricators, engineering companies and machine shops who need laser cutting done properly, on time, without managing the process themselves.

You send us drawings. We programme, nest, cut and dispatch. If the parts need bending or tapping, we handle that too. No secondary suppliers. No gaps in the chain where things go wrong.

Your focus stays on your own production. Ours stays on getting your parts right.

Why Companies Subcontract Laser Cutting

There are legitimate reasons to keep cutting in-house. But for most manufacturers and fabricators, subcontracting is the smarter commercial decision.

  • No capital outlay on machines that depreciate, break down and need replacing
  • No overhead on gas, consumables, maintenance or programming staff
  • Access to capacity that flexes with your order book, not against it
  • 24-hour turnaround capability without running your own night shift
  • A wider material range and thickness capability than most in-house setups can justify
  • Consistent quality from dedicated CNC programming and production teams whose only job is cutting

The companies that subcontract to us aren’t doing it because they can’t cut. They’re doing it because the economics and the quality are better when a specialist handles it.

Cut, Bend and Tap: One Supplier, One Delivery

Most subcontract laser cutting jobs don't end with cutting. Parts need bending. Parts need tapping.

We run laser cutting and CNC press brake bending in the same facility. We tap threaded holes before dispatch. That means a flat sheet arrives at one end of our operation and a finished, ready-to-assemble part leaves the other.

For manufacturers who subcontract, that's the difference between a clean supply chain and one you have to manage.

Industries We Subcontract For

Our customer base spans most of the UK's manufacturing and engineering sectors. The common thread is that they all need precision-cut metal parts delivered reliably, and they'd rather work with a dedicated subcontract partner than manage the cutting themselves.

  • Steel fabrication and structural steelwork contractors
  • Precision engineering and subcontract machining companies
  • Agricultural machinery and equipment manufacturers
  • Automotive and motorsport supply chain
  • Construction and infrastructure suppliers
  • Industrial equipment and plant manufacturers
  • Architectural and commercial metalwork fabricators
  • Medical, scientific and laboratory equipment manufacturers
  • Energy, utilities and renewable sector contractors

Some of these customers send us work every week. Others come to us for overflow, prototyping or specialist materials that their own equipment can’t handle. Both models work.

Delivery Across the UK

Rotherham sits at the centre of the UK's motorway network. That's not an accident. South Yorkshire became the heart of British steelmaking partly because the logistics have always worked.

For subcontract customers, that means:

  • Own transport for regular and local deliveries, particularly in Sheffield, Leeds and the surrounding area
  • Overnight courier covering the rest of the UK, most postcodes are next-day from Rotherham
  • Collection from our site if you prefer to inspect or manage your own transport

We run production 24 hours a day. When a job needs to leave first thing in the morning, the night shift can make that happen. Fast turnaround is our standard operating model, not a premium add-on.

Not on the list? We still deliver there. Call and ask.

Independently Verified

ISO 9001:2015 certified. EN 1090 Class 2 accredited. Cyber Essentials certified. Our quality management system is available to customers on request.

In 2024 we were recognised in the Yorkshire Fastest Fifty, ranking the 50 fastest-growing companies in Yorkshire. That growth has come from repeat subcontract customers and referrals, not from chasing volume for its own sake.

Common Questions

If you have any questions around our laser cutting services please feel free to get in touch
  • Do you offer subcontract laser cutting across the UK?

Yes. We’re based in Rotherham but deliver nationwide. Most postcodes are next-day via courier, and for nearby areas like Sheffield, Leeds, and Manchester, we can also use our own transport for reliable, on-time delivery.

  • How much does subcontract laser cutting cost?

Subcontract laser cutting cost depends on material type, thickness, part complexity, and quantity. Efficient CNC programming and nesting help reduce cost per part. Send us your drawings or specs, and we’ll provide a clear, competitive quote tailored to your job.

  • Can you handle custom subcontract laser cutting?

Yes. Every job is custom subcontract laser cutting, programmed from your CAD, DXF, drawings, or even a sample. Whether it’s a one-off prototype or a full production run, we ensure every part meets your exact specifications.

  • Do you also provide bending and tapping services?

Yes. Many subcontract jobs need more than cutting. We can bend and tap parts in-house, so a flat sheet can leave our facility as a ready-to-assemble component. One supplier, one delivery, no gaps in your supply chain.

  • How quickly can I get parts subcontracted to SJS Laser?

We run a 24-hour operation, so fast turnaround is standard. Jobs can be programmed, nested, and cut overnight, with most UK deliveries arriving next-day. Lead times are confirmed based on your material, quantity, and location.
