CNC Laser Cutting Services Across the UK

Based in Rotherham. Trusted by manufacturers from Leeds to Plymouth.

Serving the UK 24 hours a day.

Anyone can describe their laser cutter as CNC. The question is what the people operating and programming it can actually do with it.

SJS Laser runs a dedicated CNC programming and planning department, 24 hours a day. When a complex part arrives, it doesn't sit in a queue until the morning. Our CAD team programmes it, nests it efficiently and gets it onto the cutting bed the same night if that's what the job needs.

We've been doing this since 2012. Our fleet of fibre laser cutters has been specified and upgraded over time. And since becoming an Employee Ownership Trust in 2025, every person in this business has a stake in getting your parts right.

What CNC Control Actually Means for Your Parts

CNC — computer numerical control — means every cut is driven by a programme, not an operator's hand. The machine follows the same instructions every time. The tolerances are consistent across part one and part one thousand.

Complex geometry without compromise
Intricate profiles, tight internal radii, close-tolerance holes, parts with dozens of features, CNC-controlled laser cutting handles all of it without the setup costs or limitations of traditional methods like punching or plasma cutting. If it can be drawn, we can almost certainly cut it.

Repeatability across batches
Once a part is programmed and proven, it cuts the same way every time. If you come back six months later with the same drawing, you'll get the same part.

Efficient nesting: better yield, lower cost
Our programming team doesn't just make sure the part cuts correctly; they make sure the sheet is used as efficiently as possible. Better nesting means less material waste, which flows directly into your cost per part.

No hard tooling required
Unlike punching or stamping, CNC laser cutting requires no physical tooling for each profile. If your design changes, we update the programme. No new tool, no lead time waiting for tooling, no cost to retool.

The Programming Operation Behind the Cut

The quality of CNC laser cutting is inseparable from the quality of the programming behind it. A well-programmed job runs faster, wastes less material and produces cleaner parts. A poorly programmed one costs you time and money.

Our drawing office is staffed with CAD and programming specialists. They work alongside the sales team and the production floor, not in isolation.

When a new job comes in:

  • The file is checked for any issues before programming begins
  • Complex parts are reviewed for the most efficient cutting strategy
  • Nesting is optimised for material yield
  • Any potential problems, like narrow bridges, tight tolerances, and risky features, are flagged before the job runs

If you don’t have a CAD file, we can work from a drawing, a sketch or a sample. Our team will produce a cuttable file and run it past you before production starts.

The Equipment

We run fibre laser cutting machines. These are the current standard for cutting metals with precision at production speed. Fibre lasers are faster than CO2 machines on thinner materials and significantly more energy-efficient. They also produce a cleaner cut edge on reflective metals like aluminium, copper and brass.

Our cutting beds go up to 4,000 x 2,000mm. We cut from 0.5mm to 30mm depending on material. Both our format size and thickness range are towards the upper end of what most subcontract laser cutters in the UK can offer.

Materials We Cut

We process the full range of metals used in UK manufacturing. Mild steel and stainless steel are held in stock. Aluminium, copper, brass and specialist alloys are available on next-day supply in most cases.

Mild Steel

Grades including CR4, S275, S355 and galvanised, up to 25mm

Stainless Steel

Various grades and finishes

Aluminium

Multiple grades including 5083 and 6082-T6, up to 30mm

Copper

C101, C103, C106, up to 15mm

Brass, titanium and specialist alloys

Beyond the Cut

CNC laser cutting is often just the first step. If your parts need forming or finishing, we can handle that in the same facility.

CNC bending

We use press brake technology to bend cut parts to precise angles and profiles. Complex folded parts that would otherwise require assembly can often be produced as a single bent component, reducing your part count and your costs.

Tapping

Threaded holes added accurately before the parts leave us. Ready to assemble at your end without any additional processing.

Under One Roof

Cut, bend and tap under one roof. One supplier, one delivery, one point of contact.

CNC Laser Cutting Delivered Across the UK

We're based in Rotherham. We’re central, well-connected, and in the heart of the UK's manufacturing corridor. We deliver to customers from Leeds and Sheffield to Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham and beyond. Overnight courier covers the rest of the UK.

Our 24-hour production operation means tight deadlines don't automatically mean extra cost or a compromise on quality.

Not on the list? We still deliver there. Call and ask.

Accreditations

We're ISO 9001:2015 certified and EN 1090 Class 2 accredited, covering quality management and structural steel execution, respectively. Our integrated management system is available to customers on request. We're also Cyber Essentials certified.

In 2024 we were recognised in the Yorkshire Fastest Fifty, ranking the 50 fastest-growing companies in Yorkshire. That growth has come from repeat business and referrals, not luck.

Common Questions

If you have any questions around our laser cutting services please feel free to get in touch
  • What file formats do you accept for CNC laser cutting?

We can work with DXF, DWG and most standard CAD file formats. If you don’t have a CAD file, we can create one from a drawing, sketch or sample and send it to you for approval before cutting begins.

  • What thicknesses can you cut with CNC laser cutting?

We cut metals from 0.5mm up to 30mm, depending on the material. Thickness capacity varies slightly between mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other metals, so it’s always worth checking with our team for specific requirements.

  • How quickly can you turn around CNC laser cutting jobs?

Our programming and production teams operate 24 hours a day, which means jobs can often be processed and cut the same day they’re received. Lead times depend on complexity and volume, but we’re set up to handle urgent work without compromising quality.

  • Can you handle complex or high-volume CNC laser cutting work?

Yes. CNC laser cutting is ideal for both complex geometries and large production runs. Once a part is programmed, it can be cut repeatedly with consistent accuracy, whether you need a single prototype or thousands of parts.

  • Do you deliver CNC laser cut parts across the UK?

Yes. We deliver nationwide from our Rotherham base using overnight courier services. Regular delivery routes cover major manufacturing hubs including Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool and Nottingham.
